Production Resumes at Stellantis’ Windsor Plant

Stellantis, which idled its Windsor, Ontario assembly plant for two weeks earlier this month, has now resumed production with its normal two-shift beat.

This is the home of the Chrysler Pacifica and Grand Caravan minivans as well as the Dodge Charger Daytona electric coupe. Chrysler was a rare bright spot for the automaker in Canada during the first quarter of 2025, achieving a 69-percent increase in sales year over year.

Additionally, more than half of the 900 workers that were temporarily laid off at stamping and transmission factories in Michigan and Indiana have been called back.

Work stopped at Windsor on April 7 as Stellantis assessed the new 25-percent tariffs on foreign-made vehicles imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

However, the Toluca plant down in Mexico, which builds the Jeep Compass and Wagoneer S, will remain on halt until the end of the month.

Stellantis has also announced that its Detroit factory that makes the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango will go on a break during the week of April 28. Incidentally, the mid-cycle update to the former, planned for the 2026 model year, will debut in the second half of this year.

“To support a successful launch and ensure the highest build quality of the new model, we are extending production of the 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee at the Detroit Assembly Complex plants,” the automaker said in a statement.
