The Best Full-Size SUVs in 2025

Looking at all the full-size SUVs available on the market, the team at The Car Guide has identified the three models that represent the best buys for 2025.

Although they typically burn a lot of fuel, these vehicles offer maximum space for those who don't want to turn to minivans or pickups. They also boast excellent towing capacities and a long list of convenience features.

General Motors’ full-size SUVs continue to lead the segment thanks to a mid-cycle update for the 2025 model year. Fresh styling, interior revisions and new technology including an available 17.7-inch touchscreen are just some of the highlights, here.

These large SUVs provide remarkable visibility and comfortable seats making them pleasant to drive on short and long trips. The optional air suspension does a wonderful job of pampering occupants, too.

A pair of smooth and strong (albeit fuel-thirsty) gasoline V8 engines are available, and don’t miss the six-cylinder turbodiesel engine that benefits from extra power and torque for 2025. On the other hand, towing capacity isn’t quite on par with the competition.

2. Jeep Wagoneer

Slightly less prestigious and luxurious than the Grand Wagoneer, the Wagoneer is good enough for second place in the full-size SUV segment in 2025, according to our team. Prices are generally higher than those of the competition, but keep an eye out for manufacturer rebates that will inevitably come at some point.

As with GM and Ford, Jeep offers a longer-wheelbase variant called Wagoneer L, providing almost 400 litres of additional cargo room and increased third-row space. Under the hood, the twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine that replaces the HEMI V8 generates more power and torque than its rivals, in addition to teaming up with a robust four-wheel drive system.

Beyond that, the Wagoneer stands out with superb road manners, as well as high levels of refinement and safety. In fact, among the large SUVs crash-tested by the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), it was the only one to meet the requirements for a “Top Safety Pick” award.

3. Ford Expedition

The Nissan Armada and Ford Expedition are two other full-size SUVs to consider, especially since both are all-new for 2025. We chose to put the latter on the final step of the podium, and one reason for that was the availability of regular- and extended-wheelbase (MAX) body styles.

The twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 is as powerful as they come, but don't expect any miracles on the fuel consumption front. Towing capacity is now up to 9,600 lbs, which is a distinct advantage. A state-of-the-art multimedia interface, motorized centre console, practical split rear liftgate (the lower section folds down and doubles up as a bench) and rugged Tremor model designed with off-road driving in mind are other highlights of the Explorer.
