Genesis Imagines G90 Coupe and Convertible, Because Why Not?
The Genesis G90 might be one of the worst-selling vehicles in Canada, but the South Korean luxury brand’s flagship sedan is not going anywhere yet. In fact, at the Seoul Motor Show this week, the G90-based X Gran Coupe Concept and X Gran Convertible Concept made their debut under the theme “Unfold a New Era of Genesis.”
“In the 10 years since our launch, Genesis has been dedicated to delivering its unique values to more than 1.3 million customers worldwide,” said Mike Song, Global Head of Genesis. “We aim to seize this opportunity as a launchpad for a new decade, showcasing models that embody Genesis' pursuit of high-performance technology and future luxury design.”
The X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible concepts unsurprisingly retain the G90’s front fascia with the characteristic Two-Line headlights and Genesis Crest Grille, but they feature more steeply raked windshields and lower roof heights resulting in bold silhouettes. The doors have been lengthened to facilitate ingress and egress, and the frameless windows slide down completely to reveal an uninterrupted window graphic.

The widened fenders house new-look wheels, creating a sportier stance, while the beltline for the X Gran Convertible Concept is extended further back, dividing the body from the soft-top roof. In the rear, the full-width taillights sport a unique signature and a larger ducktail spoiler sits above. Below, the bumper incorporates wide, slim rectangular tailpipes. By the way, the touchless trunk can be operated with a simple hand gesture.
Interiors Inspired by Olives and Wine
Inside, the X Gran Coupe Concept features design elements inspired by the Mediterranean olive trees. For instance, the specially designed floor mats are adorned with olive leaf motifs, while the olive wood veneer is microperforated to create olive-themed atmosphere lighting. And get this: the gorgeous leather surfaces are crafted from naturally tanned material using wastewater from Italian olive oil production.
The X Gran Convertible Concept, meanwhile, not only has an exterior colour reminiscent of pressed grapes, but the rich blue cabin echoes Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Livorno region of Italy. In both cars, crystals are used for the details on the steering wheel, centre console and ventilation systems.

Genesis didn’t provide any information about the powertrain. Previous X concepts were all electrically powered, but if these G90 coupe and cabriolet were to enter production, we’d expect to find under the hood the twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 with mild hybrid technology producing 409 horsepower.
