Someone Paid $323,000 for This Low-Mileage 1993 GMC Typhoon
We weren’t exactly surprised to see Ford introducing the Maverick Lobo for 2025. A lot of enthusiasts out there still have a thing for lower-riding street trucks—the kind that was particularly popular from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s.
One of them, the GMC Syclone (based on the Sonoma), inspired the GMC Typhoon SUV (based on the Jimmy) in the first half of the 1990s. Why are we bringing this up now? Because a unit was sold for crazy money on Bring a Trailer earlier in the week.

Believe it or not, someone paid as much as $226,000 USD for the 1993 Typhoon pictured here, or the equivalent of $323,000 CAD at the current exchange rate. That’s more than double the price of the most expensive 2025 GMC Hummer EV… and roughly 7.5 times its original MSRP. For real.

The reason? Well, for starters, look at it. This 32-year-old SUV is almost immaculate. Proper maintenance and a super-low mileage will do that. It has logged only 688 miles, or just over 1,100 km.
Furthermore, while General Motors built a total of 4,697 GMC Typhoons, including 2,200 for 1993, only 77 of those were finished in Apple Red from the ground up (body cladding and fender flares included).

As a high-performance variant of the Jimmy, the Typhoon featured a turbocharged 4.3-litre V6 engine producing 280 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque—numbers that put today’s GMC Terrain to shame. Ditto for its 0-100 km/h acceleration times of 5.5 seconds.
Also part of the package are a four-speed automatic transmission, BorgWarner transfer case and limited-slip rear diffferential. The stock 16-inch wheels have been left untouched, too. Inside, black leather covers the seats and appears to be in top condition, judging by the pictures (more can be found in the photo gallery at the top of the page).

Not bad considering the three decades that have gone by since this truck hit the market, eh? Still, spending that much on a Typhoon is arguably not something your financial advisor would recommend.
