2025 Volkswagen Tiguan Goes on Sale This Spring With Higher Prices

Unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show last fall, the new third-generation 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is set to arrive in Canadian dealerships this spring. Prices have gone up, unsurprisingly, but considering the transformation the German compact SUV underwent, we think the hikes are reasonable.

Before going any further, you must know that the Tiguan is now based on an evolution of the existing platform, called MQB evo, and boasts a slightly longer wheelbase than its predecessor. However, the interior is limited to a two-row configuration. Sure, the optional third-row seats in the outgoing model were cramped even for children, but they helped the Tiguan stand out from most rivals.

Volkswagen’s designers have focused on creating on a more upscale, more cutting-edge cabin with higher-quality materials. Meanwhile, engineers have increased the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine’s output from 184 hp to 201 hp (improving maximum towing capacity from 1,500 lbs to 1,800 lbs in the process), reduced the vehicle’s weight by 77 kg (170 lbs) and expanded standard safety content with four additional airbags (total of 10), among other things.

Average fuel consumption is down from 9.4 to 9.3 L/100 km according to Natural Resources Canada, a trivial saving that will keep customers waiting for a Tiguan Hybrid. On that note, VW executives in North America have previously expressed a desire to add a plug-in hybrid to the lineup in the near future. When will we see it?

The Same Four Models

The least expensive Volkswagen Tiguan you can buy for 2025 remains the Trendline model, which starts at $38,695 including $2,200 freight and PDI. This is $1,600 more than its 2024 equivalent. It comes with 4Motion all-wheel drive, new 17-inch wheels, adaptive LED headlights, remote start, a heated leatherette steering wheel, newly designed embossed cloth seats, the next generation of Volkswagen’s 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro system along with a new MIB4 infotainment system featuring a 12.9-inch display. Let’s not forget the wireless smartphone charger, dual-zone automatic climate control and numerous driver assistance features.

Next up is the Tiguan Comfortline at $42,195 for 2025. This model gets new 18-inch wheels, a power liftgate, tinted rear windows, perforated leatherette seating surfaces with an 8-way power driver’s seat, additional USB-C ports, plus a new Atmospheres feature that combines synchronized ambient lighting and audio settings. Customers also have more exterior and interior colours to choose from, not to mention an optional panoramic sunroof ($1,500).

Once again, the Comfortline model is available in an R-Line Black Edition, priced from $45,695. It has a darker and slightly sportier look, particularly where the bumpers and 20-inch wheels are concerned. The panoramic roof is included as standard, as are illuminated door handles and sill plates.

Finally, the range-topping Tiguan Highline costs $49,695 for 2025, a jump of $2,000. It stands out with unique 20-inch wheels, more illuminated elements as well as a heated and acoustic windshield. Inside, you’ll find a 15-inch infotainment display, 12-speaker harman kardon premium audio system, three-zone climate control and upgraded Varenna leather seats with ventilation, 10-point massage and quilted stitching.

It’s also the only model to offer genuine walnut open-pore wood dash décor, a wrapped and double-stitched centre console, “Amber Brown” interior option and 30-colour ambient lighting. That and extra tech such as a 360-degree camera system and head-up display.

We’ll have a first-drive review of the new 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan in the coming weeks, so don’t miss it.
