The 2025 Tesla Model Y Goes on Sale in North America

The new Tesla Model Y (codenamed Juniper) will soon be delivered to North American buyers. Orders are open on the carmaker’s website, stating that the first deliveries will take place in March 2025.

Compared to the outgoing model, the new Y features a completely redesigned front-end, with new headlights linked by a Cybertruck-inspired LED light bar. The rear also features a new lighting signature.

Inside, this new Y boast, according to Tesla, better build and finish quality and improved connectivity. As with the outgoing model, there's a 15.4-inch screen that dominates the dashboard. However, the new Model Y now adds a second 8-inch monitor at the rear. Maximum cargo space peaks at 2,130 litres (2,158 in the previous model), and the tailgate unlocks automatically as the driver approaches the car. Finally, the 2025 Y uses an additional camera for a total of 8.

The manufacturer also describes the Y’s new-generation suspension as better and more comfortable, as is the cabin’s soundproofing.

Only One Variant, For Now

Tesla is introducing the new Y in a single version for the time being, as is often the case in the industry. Dubbed the Launch Series, this is a long-range model with all-wheel drive. Power and torque are not specified, but acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.3 seconds, 0.7 seconds better than the previous model. This new limited edition Model Y is also distinguished by Launch lettering in various places (door sills, centre console), vegan leather upholstery and high-end floor mats. On the outside, there's a specific logo on the tailgate, whose pattern is also projected onto the floor near the mirrors when the doors are opened.

Supervised automatic driving, optional in the outgoing model ($11,000) comes as standard for the new Model Y Launch Edition. But this equipment will probably remain an option for the less expensive variants to be sold later. Pricing for the Launch Series model starts at $84,990, with four colours available (silver-gray, dark-gray, red and white); buyers can also opt for 19- or 20-inch wheels in a different design. The advertised range is 503 and 484 km respectively.

Charging peaks at 250 kW on a level 3 charger, allowing 248 km of range to be recovered in 15 minutes under the best conditions. As always with Tesla, standard and optional equipment may change over the weeks. We'll also have to wait a little longer before knowing the prices other models in the range. Tesla also points out that outgoing models are still available for sale, and that prices could rise to $4,000 due to the suspension of the provincial rebate as of February 1.
