Decade-Old 2025 Volvo XC90 Gets Another Refresh to Pair With EX90
The current-generation Volvo XC90 is entering its tenth year, but don’t call it irrelevant in the midsize luxury segment. For 2025, key changes are in store for the gas-powered counterpart of the all-new, fully electric EX90.
The refreshed exterior marks a subtle evolution, with slimmer headlights blending with the redesigned front grille. The latter now incorporates a juxtaposed diagonal motif for a more premium look, while the revised hood and bumpers clean up the overall appearance.

New wheel designs ranging from 20-22 inches in size are another highlight, along with a new body colour called Mulberry Red.
The interior is even quieter than before thanks to the addition of extra insulation to certain parts of the SUV. The redesigned front cabin features a flatter dashboard layout with decorative panels made from premium recycled materials and new vertical air vents. At night, enhanced illumination contributes to a more luxurious feel.
In response to feedback from current XC90 owners, Volvo has created additional storage space in the centre console, including an extra cupholder, and moved the wireless phone charger up front for greater convenience.
The portrait-style touchscreen is larger (up from 9 inches to 11.2 inches) and boasts higher resolution. It offers a new user experience similar to that of the aforementioned EX90 and the little new EX30. That means more features and apps, plus regular over-the-air software updates.
New Suspension
The same powertrain options return for 2025, unsurprisingly. The standard XC90 with mild hybrid technology (B6) delivers 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, while the plug-in hybrid variant (T8) achieves a combined 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque in addition to enabling 53 km of zero-emission range.
However, engineers have improved the suspension. Each individual damper is now able to adapt mechanically to road conditions to optimize either ride quality or handling. Optionally, the air suspension works together with an active chassis that monitors the vehicle, road and driver 500 times per second for the best possible setup in real time.
That same suspension can raise the SUV up to 40 mm for extra ground clearance when tackling rough terrain or lower it up to 20 mm for easy access getting in or out, not to mention better aerodynamics at high speed.
The 2025 Volvo XC90 is available to order now. Production is scheduled to begin later this year, with first customer deliveries in Canada set to start in early 2025. We’ll keep you posted when pricing details are announced.
