Watch: Ford Mustang GTD Makes History at the Nürburgring

The fearsome 2025 Mustang GTD has just fulfilled the promise made by Ford in August of 2023, becoming the first car from an American brand to complete a lap of Germany’s legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in under seven minutes.

Driven by Multimatic Motorsports driver Dirk Müller, the 815-horsepower Mustang GTD lapped “The Green Hell” in 6:57:685—the fifth fastest time by a stock production sports car according to the Nürburgring’s official records, faster than a Porsche 911 GT3 or Ferrari 296 GTB. It’s only the sixth vehicle in that class to break the seven-minute barrier.

The record-breaking feat was captured in a 14-minute documentary titled Road to the ‘Ring’, which you can watch below:

The Mustang GTD was created over the course of two years by a small team of engineers and designers who worked to turn the Mustang GT3 race car into the first-ever Mustang supercar. It features carbon-ceramic brakes, active aerodynamics, a supercharged V8 and semi-active suspension from Ontario-based Multimatic, which happens to take care of production just like it did with the Ford GT.

As mentioned earlier, the Mustang GTD that made history at the Nürburgring was entirely stock. However, it did include motorsports-derived safety gear mandated by the Nürburgring, such as a competition seat with a five-point harness and a roll cage.

“The team behind Mustang GTD took what we’ve learned from decades on the track and engineered a Mustang that can compete with the world’s best supercars,” Ford President and CEO Jim Farley said. “We’re proud to be the first American automaker with a car that can lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, but we aren’t satisfied. We know there’s much more time to find with Mustang GTD. We’ll be back.”

And we can’t wait to see that.
