The Best Electric Pickups in 2025
Looking at all the electric pickups on the market, the team at The Car Guide has identified the three models that represent the best buys for 2025.
The GMC Hummer EV that started the trend is far from the only option available in 2025. In fact, General Motors has come up with two more, while the Tesla Cybertruck has arrived after a long wait. On the flip side, the Ram 1500 REV will be late to the party after being postponed to 2026. Below is our top 3.
1. Rivian R1T

In our opinion, the best buy among electric pickups in 2025 is the R1T, available in two-, three- or even four-motor configurations. Output ranges from 533 hp to 1,025 hp, resulting in astonishingly quick acceleration (0-100 km/h in as little as 2.6 seconds).
Significant upgrades for 2025 include the heat pump and suspension components. Range is between 435 km and 676 km, depending on the model. When it comes to work, the R1T can tow from 7,700 lbs to 11,000 lbs. The cargo bed measures just 4.5 feet long, but it can be extended to 7 feet by lowering the tailgate.
Steering is actually very precise, which is a nice surprise given the R1T's size and weight. On the other hand, while the unibody structure is rigid, we did notice some unwanted noises, a sign that build quality could be better. The nifty 331-litre storage tunnel between the cargo bed and cab complements the front trunk for maximum convenience and versatility.
Rivian's retail and service network in Canada is extremely limited but growing. And watch out for prices, which are already higher than average and continue to rise.
2. Ford F-150 Lightning

In second place, Ford's electric pickup manages to ward off GM's new contenders, which feature larger batteries and thus offer much longer range. The F-150 Lightning is good for only 386-515 km. As for power, we're talking about 452 hp or 580 hp depending on the battery, which still lags behind the competition.
Other than that, the Lightning has little to envy its rivals. The functional interior is almost identical to that of gasoline-powered F-150s and puts drivers immediately at ease. Space is plentiful, the seats are comfortable and the ride is very smooth and pleasant.
Granted, Ford always seems to struggle with build quality in new models, but that doesn’t change the fact that the F-150 Lightning is an accomplished, high-value electric truck that’s ready for work.
3. Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV

Rounding out our podium, the Chevrolet Silverado EV has benefited from the addition of WT and LT models for 2025. Two huge batteries are available, rated at 170 kWh and 205 kWh. Power can be anywhere from 510 hp to 754 hp, while maximum range has been increased to an exceptional 792 km according to official ratings.
The trunk under the hood isn't as large as Ford's but still capable of swallowing 303 litres of cargo. The unique feature here is definitely the flexible midgate separating the cargo bed and the cab, which folds down to create a floor almost 11 feet long. The rear window can be completely removed, as well. On the other hand, the Silverado EV boasts disappointing fit and finish, while its excessive weight affects handling and ride quality.
Over at GMC, the Sierra EV debuted last fall in top-of-the-line Denali trim (more models will be added for 2026). This truck looks and feels more luxurious than its Chevrolet cousin, but it doesn’t offer the same range. Overall ergonomics are excellent in both cases. Last but not least, we'd like to highlight the Super Cruise hands-free driving system, which is competent and functional even when a trailer is attached, as well as the four-wheel steering system, which considerably reduces the turning circle.
