2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e Arrives With 87 km of EV Range

A new plug-in hybrid SUV offering unbeatable zero-emission range is about to launch in Canada. We’re talking about the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e 4MATIC, which is due to arrive at dealerships later this fall.

Combining a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and 24.8kWh high-voltage battery, the latest member of the GLC family generates a total of 313 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration will never be a problem (0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds), but the more impressive thing about it is the ability to drive up to 87 km without burning any fuel.

No other plug-in hybrid in the country can match that, not even the larger Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e 4MATIC (80 km) or JLR’s Range Rover P550e and Range Rover Sport P460e/P550e (85 km). Those 87 km are the official rating from Natural Resources Canada, by the way. Drivers will probably be able to reach 100 km in ideal conditions.

Making the most of the EV-only range will be critical, as the GLC 350e 4MATIC otherwise achieves 9.4 L/100 km on average. And of course, premium gasoline is required. Incidentally, the "Hybrid" drive mode prioritizes electric propulsion for the most appropriate driving situations.

As far as charging is concerned, this compact SUV from Mercedes-Benz is one of the rare PHEVs out there that can use DC fast chargers. With a maximum rate of 60 kW, a full charge can be done in just under 30 minutes. The time required for the same operation using a 240V domestic charger is not specified, however.

The 2025 GLC 350e 4MATIC carries a base MSRP of $64,900 in Canada. While too expensive to qualify for a rebate under the federal government’s iZEV program, some provincial incentives apply including in Quebec ($5,000 until December 31, 2024, $2,000 afterwards). Freight, PDI, dealer charge and other fees amount to nearly $5,000 (!), resulting in an all-inclusive price of $69,738.

Standard equipment includes a self-leveling suspension, the new third-generation MBUX infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a centre airbag between the front seats and more. Exclusive and Pinnacle trim levels with additional features and refinement can be yours from $73,538 and $77,238, respectively.

Eleven body colours, six wheel designs (two of which are exclusive to the GLC 350e) and 13 different upholstery selections are available, not to mention AMG Line and Night packages for further individualization.

Alternatives in the segment include the Lexus NX 450h+ (60 km of EV range), Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring (43 km) and Volvo XC60 T8 (58 km). The completely redesigned 2025 BMW X3 is not bringing back a plug-in hybrid model for now, but we should see one at a later date.
