Things Keep Getting Worse for Stellantis in Canada

Stellantis, whose profit fell a whopping 70 percent in 2024, anticipates a rebound in late 2025, but in the meantime, things keep getting worse including in Canada.

Efforts to adjust production, limit stocks and reduce prices are slow to yield actual results. The 5-percent increase in sales in the final quarter of 2024 has been completely ruined by the 18-percent loss in the first quarter of 2025, down to 26,354 units.

The saddest performance of all was achieved by Ram, which plunged 29 percent. Once the second best-selling vehicle nationwide, its full-size truck (including both the Ram 1500 and Ram Heavy Duty) slipped another 38 percent, ending the quarter with just 9,903 units sold.

Following the discontinuation of the Ram 1500 Classic, high prices are keeping many potential customers away. It’s no surprise Ram’s chief financial officer recently admitted that the brand desperately needs a new, less expensive pickup. Demand is strong, he said. Ditto for the return of the HEMI V8.

Jeep, meanwhile, posted a 24-percent drop in the first quarter of 2025. Every single model in the lineup was down except for the all-new Wagoneer S and the entry-level Compass (+6 percent). The latter is Jeep’s cheapest SUV and now a bit more attractive and competitive in the compact SUV segment after $6,000 were taken off the base price last year. Still, the return of the Cherokee probably can’t come soon enough. Look for it as a 2026 model with gas and hybrid powertrain options.

Over at Dodge, down 5 percent in Q1 2025, the Durango and Hornet are both on the upswing, but the transition from the old Challenger/Charger duo to the new Charger Daytona EV (168 units sold) is quite slow. Company executives are pinning their hopes on the upcoming addition of a four-door variant and gas-powered models—possibly including V8 engines… in late 2026. Dodge’s CEO has also left the door open to an affordable sports car, but don’t hold your breath for that one.

With only 166 vehicles sold in the entire country three months into 2025, Alfa Romeo is 25 percent behind its total from a year ago. Fiat’s 500e managed to sell more units than it did in Q4 2024, but the cheapest EV on the market is not exactly a success so far. Granted, the abrupt suspension of Canada’s and Quebec’s rebate programs has had a significant impact.

The brightest spot for Stellantis in Canada, ironically, may be Chrysler. Left for dead by many, the minivan brand increased its sales by 69 percent from January through March 2025. What’s more, the lower-priced Grand Caravan (one trim only) is now outselling the fresher and more sophisticated Pacifica (1,417 units vs. 1,126).
