Genesis X Gran Equator May Be the Coolest Thing You’ll See Today
New York, United States—Genesis has unveiled the all-new X Gran Equator Concept at the New York Auto Show. Although the Korean luxury brand has not released any technical details, we can speculate that this adventurous-looking vehicle previews the design of a future full-size SUV.
Could it be conventionally powered or all-electric? It’s a mystery for now. However, since Hyundai is about to launch the IONIQ 9, it would make sense for a Genesis-branded electric three-row SUV to use the same architecture. We’ll see.

Harmonizing Contrasts
Essentially, what we have here is a reinterpretation of Genesis' "Athletic Elegance" design philosophy that simultaneously embraces the rugged spirit of overlanding.
“The X Gran Equator Concept is an exercise in harmonizing contrasts—combining elegance with ruggedness, and the spirit of exploration with refined comfort,” said Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis. “It represents the orchestration of true off-road competence and uncompromising luxury, designed to enable the discovery of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes.”
By the way, Genesis chose a name that draws inspiration from Equator, widely recognized as the "finest stallion" in the world of Arabian horses and a symbol of endurance, agility and speed.

Understated Styling
The exterior of the X Gran Equator Concept emphasizes clean lines and uncluttered surfaces. At first glance, it kind of reminds us of the Jaguar Type 00, although in a more advanced and more production-ready package. The extremely long hood and fast C-pillars create a dynamic silhouette that defies traditional SUV conventions.
Meanwhile, Genesis’ signature Two-Line headlamps combine with geometric auxiliary lamps and a split-opening tailgate. Other highlights include dark wheel-arch cladding and 24-inch beadlock wheels, underscoring the vehicle’s capability on loose or rocky terrain.

Minimalist Interior
Inside, the horizontal dashboard features four large circular dials inspired by vintage cameras, plus storage compartments in front of the passenger. Grab handles are located on the centre console, where you'll notice what looks like the Crystal Sphere rotary gear selector that debuted in the GV60 electric crossover a few years ago. The four seats have a two-tone look with contrasting colours, while the interior trim pieces contribute to a clean look.
The X Gran Equator Concept is the main star at the Genesis booth during the 2025 New York Auto Show. Following the event, it will be on display at Genesis House in the Big Apple’s Meatpacking District until the end of July.
